Corporate Profile
GenPrime is making the world a healthier and safer place to live through innovative biotechnology.
The Company's Health Care business is improving the accuracy and efficiency of Point-of-Care diagnostic testing to help increase patient safety. In Homeland Security, GenPrime is helping to reduce the devastating impacts of bioterrorism. GenPrime's Fermentation solutions decrease hazardous fossil fuel emissions and help to lessen America's dependence on foreign oil. Our team of scientists and business leaders has been working together for more than 10 years, during which time they have developed exceptionally novel, reliable technologies for rapid microbe detection and analysis.
Today, GenPrime’s primary effort is focused on the rapid Point-of-Care (POC) diagnostic testing segment of the Health Care industry. The POC segment of the Health Care market is growing by 8% per year and is projected to reach $4.7 Billion by 2010. The Company has innovated novel platform technologies which are now being developed into products for applications in the POC diagnostic market.
GenPrime determined through market research that there is a need for a non-subjective way to read the results of lateral flow POC diagnostic assays and store the data analysis for future reference and chain-of-custody. To meet this need, the Company developed a Point-of-Care Test Reader. The Reader is designed to read multiple lateral-flow, or "home pregnancy type", POC tests and analyze the results all in one scan. Additional market research has revealed that there is a great need in several clinical markets for a lateral-flow test reader. Some of these testing markets include drugs of abuse, cardiac marker diagnostics, fertility testing, infectious disease diagnostics and oncology diagnostics.
There is a handful of lateral-flow test readers available in the market, however each of them is custom designed for specific test formats. End users are limited to a single format or must purchase multiple readers for multiple test formats. The market is in need of a lateral-flow test reader that is able to analyze multiple test formats. GenPrime's novel image analysis software combined with the flexibility of its scanning technology make its reader the first universal lateral-flow reader available.
GenPrime has proven its capability to develop and commercialize products that address critical market needs. Following the anthrax attacks of October 2001, the critical need for a practical technology to assist first responders in efficiently dealing with bioterrorist threats became apparent. GenPrime's unique experience combined with its proven technology placed it in an ideal position to address this growing problem. The management team focused its resources on the application of its bacterial detection technology for first response solutions to bioterrorism by developing the Prime Alert® Biodetection System. The Prime Alert helps first responders quickly determine if an unknown substance is a biological threat or merely a hoax.
GenPrime made its first significant sales of the Prime Alert in the Homeland Security market in early 2004. The Company succeeded with several key sales to some progressive early adopters such as the State of Georgia, the Defense Forces of Ireland, and the cities of Chicago, Seattle and Washington D.C. In the first quarter of 2005, GenPrime secured a contract with inarguably the best Prime Alert customer – the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). This made the Prime Alert the gold standard. USPIS continues to purchase Prime Alert products on a regular basis.
Fuel Ethanol production through fermentation is another industry benefiting from GenPrime's technology. With the strong push to lessen America's dependence on foreign oil, the fuel ethanol industry is growing at a rapid pace. GenPrime's Yeast Activity Monitor™ product helps plants make ethanol more efficiently on a consistent basis by allowing them to quickly monitor yeast activity and make adjustments to the process. The Company is currently shipping the Yeast Activity Monitor to more than 20% of the U.S. ethanol plants.
GenPrime believes that it has only scratched the surface of applications for its biological screening technologies. The pharmaceutical and other industries that use fermentation in their processes have expressed keen interest in the Yeast Activity technology. The clinical diagnostic market for human and animal health is also in need of rapid screening tests. The Company is poised to enter these and other markets with existing products and products currently under development. Through strategic partnerships and additional resources, GenPrime has all of the components necessary for rapid and sustainable growth. |
